The Amish are known for their simple living, not watching TV or using the internet, wearing plainclothes, riding in horse carriages and being very religious. It looks like they live a more primitive lifestyle than their surrounding cultures. It also looks like they got stuck in the past, but it seems they still live very happily.

We spent one month in Bali with our 5 and 6-year-old girls and asked them to create their own list of 10 things they loved the most in Bali. I must say, I wouldn’t make this list much different myself.
We didn’t have to choose. Pelion is a place where we have found everything: pine-tree forests with waterfalls and water springs, long sandy beaches, villages with traditional architecture and beautiful squares in shade of thousand years old plane trees. Pelion is rich in myths and history, so this is the place where gods of Olympus resided in the summer and Jason and the Argonauts went in search of the Golden Fleece.
Many would agree that Spetses is one of the most wonderful islands in Greece, known for its lush landscapes, traditional architecture, turquoise waters, legendary history, fancy prices, and terrible noises. Actually, car traffic is forbidden on the island, but it seems that motorcycles are not counted. There are more motorcycles in the streets than mosquitos. The only difference is that mosquitos don’t make such a terrible noise.
Bali is one of the most attractive islands in the world, especially if the airline tickets are down 40 percent in the middle of the tourist season. Bali is an exotic, adventurous and romantic place with a special energy that radiates from the people, fruits, and the ocean. Such is Bali that it is a perfect place to go for your wedding or honeymoon. We went to Bali with the kids.
Once upon a time, Napflion was the capital city of Greece, but today it is a favorite one-day destination for tourists coming from nearby Athens. This town looks a bit different from other seaside Greek towns because of its significant Venetian influence. Here, the Greek tradition is spiced with Venetian charm.
How did they do it? This is the first thing most people ask when seeing Meteora. I still haven’t figured out how these monasteries were built on top of these cliffs. It is truly mystical. This is one of those places where you and your kids have something in common because you both start believing in unbelievable stories. There are many myths and legends related to Meteora. According to one of them, the founder of the first monastery did not come up alone but was brought up by an eagle.
The Colosseum has 76 entries, but we did not enter even one. We admired it from the outside. The entrance was 12 euros and there was nothing going on inside. In Roman times, the entrance was free for everyone. Of course, the first level of the Colosseum was reserved for the emperor and his senators, so they could watch bloody gladiators fight from the closest distance. The Colosseum is not just about ruins though, it is also a vibrant place where people can enjoy opera or rock concerts too.
As soon as we arrived in Thessaloniki, there was no doubt where we would go first. That was, of course, to meet the great philosopher, Aristotle. He is sitting in the main town square. While people hang around in nearby cafes, Aristotle is in a deep-thinking mood. He is happy not to be a teacher nowadays when teaching is a job not appreciated as it was when he was educating Alexander the Great.
We have visited many ancient theatres (like those in Taormina and Syracuse, Italy) but the theatre in Epidaurus was really one that stood out for us. This ancient theatre has the best natural acoustics in the world. This means that you can drop a coin or tear paper on the stage and the spectators seated in the last row will be able to hear those sounds, without a microphone or speakers!
What to say about Athens that was not already said? We have been everywhere, from museums to squares, beautiful parks and botanical gardens, churches, and all other historic buildings, and the local police station as well. While I was wandering around, with my head in clouds, someone skillful took my wallet (with 180 EUR and almost all documents), so that was an opportunity for visiting local police which, fortunately, is not far from Acropolis.
